As much as my heart resounded with the lyrics, expressing this earnest plea, I gave myself the stern warning that how true a reflection it was, of my actual heart would show in my actions. Actions without heart is a clanging cymbal. "Heart" without action, is empty faith. Worthless faith. Both are equally worthless. Let me not tread the sinful paths of old. Let me not be contented to rest on my laurels. Let me not be weakened in my resolve to put into practise what I hear. Stir up the coals, shake off the white ash so that it may red hot and burning again.
MORE LOVE TO THEE, O CHRIST
More love to Thee, O Christ, more love to Thee!
Hear Thou the prayer I make on bended knee.
This is my earnest plea: More love, O Christ, to Thee;
More love to Thee, more love to Thee!
Once earthly joy I craved, sought peace and rest;
Now Thee alone I seek, give what is best.
This all my prayer shall be: More love, O Christ to Thee;
More love to Thee, more love to Thee!
Let sorrow do its work, come grief or pain;
Sweet are Thy messengers, sweet their refrain,
When they can sing with me: More love, O Christ, to Thee;
More love to Thee, more love to Thee!
Then shall my latest breath whisper Thy praise;
This be the parting cry my heart shall raise;
This still its prayer shall be: More love, O Christ to Thee;
More love to Thee, more love to Thee!
Had it not been for God's grace, I would not have had this desire. He who calls me is faithful. And I shall ask of Him to grant me grace to bring to fruition, my heart's desire. Let my heart's desire express itself also in works of faith.
2 Thessalonians 1:11-12
To this end also we pray for you always, that our God will count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
