O Perfect Love

O perfect Love, all human thought transcending,
Lowly we kneel in prayer before Thy throne,
That theirs may be the love which knows no ending,
Whom Thou forevermore dost join in one.

O perfect Life, be Thou their full assurance,
Of tender charity and steadfast faith,
Of patient hope and quiet, brave endurance,
With childlike trust that fears nor pain nor death.

Grant them the joy which brightens earthly sorrow;
Grant them the peace which calms all earthly strife,
Grant them the vision of the glorious morrow (this phrase is altered)
That dawns upon eternal love and life.

Hear us, O Father, gracious and forgiving,
Through Jesus Christ, Thy coeternal Word,
Who, with the Holy Ghost, by all things living
Now and to endless ages art adored.

Have been singing this for weeks now and the tune is just carved in my mind. What beautiful harmony of words and lyrics that resound in my heart! What tune, that with it, carries simple words that speak of truths too profound to be understood thoroughly, fully and completely. Week after week of singing, I've consciously set my heart to meditate on the content of the lyrics every time I sing it, making sure it was not merely sound waves proceeding out of my mouth. I was only consciously doing it after the 2nd or 3rd session. After repeated singing for quite some time now, I'm thoroughly overwhelmed by the lyrics and the hymn writer's thoughts.

To those who are going to be wedded this year. God willing, I'll help out with the logistics for your wedding but this one thing I want to do. I can't do much, but I know of this Perfect Love, this Perfect Life who is far above and beyond all human thought. I want to plead on your behalf, to The perfect love, to The perfect life, to The Holy Trinity that God's love may be greatly manifested in your family. As eternal as His is, may yours be till death to you part, as charged in your marriage covenant, by God.

May The Perfect Life ever be your guide, as close as that of the garden of Eden, when mankind used to enjoy perfect life and when mankind was once in perfect relationship with The Perfect Life. In the arduous journey ahead, may He bless you with joy and peace that rises above all calamity and troubles. May He fill your thoughts with rich thoughts of His glorious coming and live each day, in purposeful, conscious hope of His appearing. That marks the start from which we will indeed enjoy perfect love and life.

When you sin, and sin we all will, Father, forgive us, by your grace, through Jesus Christ. May we all grow and abound in our worship of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and join in the eternal adoration for God.

Amen.

Hi Tian Meng,

This used to be my favorite set of wedding lyrics until I found another one that can also work with the same tune-

"A Wedding Prayer" by Alfred P. Gibbs

Thou glorious Bridegroom who from heaven’s splendour, came to the cross, Thy chosen Bride to gain;
Draw near, we pray, and grace this happy union, and o’er their lives do Thou supremely reign!

We seek for them, Oh Lord Thy benediction, each good and perfect gift from heav’n above;
The strength of faith, of courage, and forbearance, the light of wisdom and the warmth of love.

O, may they prove Thy grace is all sufficient, those needs to meet they cannot now foresee;
And have the conscious sense of Thine own presence, as they in all their ways, acknowledge Thee.

Into Thy gracious hands we now commend them, for that rich blessing Thou alone can give;
And pray that they may grow in grace and knowledge, and for Thy glory ever seek to live.

Thought it resonated with this entry of yours. Hope it'll be a blessing =)

Beautiful! Thank you! :)
I like how the 1st verse sets the stage by tying back to what marriage ought to exemplify..

absolutely, it's the picture human marriages were made to show forth... =)

i also like the 3rd stanza cuz it's so full of Bible heh... magnifies His grace, challenges me to live Him in every little thing that i do...

btw, how i found your blog is from Facebook... cuz u kept posting ideas and verses that resonated with me, i was trying to remember whether you were my bro's friend (we're very close so some of his friends became mine too) or from eldds or both lol...

would like you to know, i've read your blog & was particularly encouraged by "Resolved"... praise God that He's given you such love for Him & just wanna encourage u to continue to press on keeping your eyes on our precious Lord =)

You are too kind.. I have failed uncountable times and am still struggling to deal with my sins.. I often have to come back to revisit what I wrote too, but I thank God that you found encouragement through them.. It's all God's grace :)
